Mijas
The beautiful little mountain village of Mijas has narrow cobbled streets. Many artists and writers live here, enjoying the benefits of the climate, without being part of the busier coastal towns just 7 km away. Despite its huge popularity with tourists, Mijas has managed to retain much of its traditional Andalucian way of life. The craft shops have some wonderful hand made pottery and often affordable paintings and prints by local artists.
There are some excellent museums, including a museum of miniatures, and a bullfighting museum.
Mijas is famous for its Donkey Taxi service. The donkeys are always ready and waiting to take you around the village to have a taste of the ancient transport system. Alternatively you could hire a donkey and trap or coach and horses for a more comfortable ride.
