Granada
Granada is a hugely important historical city, best known for its superb Alhambra, a series of palaces and gardens built under the Nazari Dynasty in the 14th C. These building stand at the foot of Spain's highest mountain range, the Sierra Nevada.
Granada also has numerous other religious and historical buildings. The hill facing the Alhambra is the old Moorish casbah, the Albaicin, a fascinating labyrinth of narrow streets and whitewashed houses with secluded inner gardens. The cathedral is worth a visit as is the Royal Chapel, the mausoleum of the Catholic Kings Isabel and Ferdinand. Nearby is the Alcaicerķa - a tightly-meshed grid of alleyways decorated with Moorish arches, now containing Granada's tourist souvenir shops.
