Gibraltar
Gibraltar is famous worldwide for its Rock which has dominated the Straits of Gibraltar for around 200 million years. Gibraltar itself is imposing but small, measuring less than six square kilometres in total. Its 30,000 people are a mix of Gibraltarians, British, Moroccans, Indians and Spanish. There is also a colony of the famous apes, the only ones in Europe to run free in a semi-wild state
Gibraltar is a member of the EU by virtue of Britain's membership. However, it is outside the Customs Union, therefore is a duty free area. However, taking more than 200 cigarettes/1 litre in spirits into Spain from Gibraltar is viewed as smuggling - the excess could be confiscated.
